Movida

Last night, Evelyn and I brought Jo out for dinner because her birthday is coming! (: This ist turning into a bit of a tradition really! Last year, I brought her out to Nobu and we had a girly night watching Easy A at Crown. It is quite scary how quickly time has gone by.

So I called Movida's main line on Monday to make a booking and to my delight there was a space for us on Wednesday! We only had the table from 6pm - 8pm which made it a little restrictive and I was a little sad cos this means that we would have to go somewhere else for after dinner drinks.

I got to Flinders Station at 5.50pm and walked to Movida. Don't make the same mistake as me! I didn't cross over to walk on the other side of the road and had to walk an extra block (this is the princess in me talking lol). And turns out, Eef did the exact same thing as I did when she came! Lol.

Hosier Lane
Walking into Hosier Lane, you will notice an entire alleyway filled with graffiti. I've always wanted to be good at art and do stuff like that. Chuck Palahniuk once wrote, “We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.”

Sangria MovidaWe started off with a jug of Sangria! We are always up for drinks. And I really needed a drink. I've been feeling a little low and just generally burn-outness over the past week so it was a great mid week pick up! It was fresh, light and just the perfect drink I needed!

Oysters MovidaThis was on the Specials. We had already decided on our dishes but when our waitress listed out the specials...I mean.. HOW CAN YOU GO PAST OYSTERS?! This one was all right. One might be fussy and say that the oysters are not similarly sized.. One MIGHT say that.. #justsaying I can't remember what foam was on top though.

Vieira Scallop MovidaI read about the Sopa Ajo con Vieira over on The Burnt Fig. Oh when I put that first bite of the pan seared scallop in my mouth. I swear I died and had gone to scallop heaven. The outside of the scallop was beautifully caramelised. I couldn't get enough! Wish I had more. ):

Cecina Wagyu MovidaCecina - air dried Wagyu with Poached Egg and Truffle Foam. When this was placed in front of us, the waitress explained that first you had to break the poached egg into the foam and then fold the Wagyu into that. When you mixed it, the smell of truffle punches you in the nose and then you as you taste it, the soft wagyu melts on your tongue. Mmmm. Om nom nom nom.

Steak Tartare Movida

As you can probably tell, my friends and I are raw beef lovers. This was the Bistec Tartare de Wagyu - Spicy Steak Tartare of raw, grass-fed Wagyu beef. It was all right. Very err..angmoh (Western) way of preparing Tartare. Reckon I like my tartare the Japanese way a la Izakaya Chuji.

pork stuffed calamari movidaMonte y Mar - Pork stuffed Calamari with Squid Ink dressing. This is probably the most disappointing dish IMHO. The pork stuffing just wasn't that nice. It was all a sticky, mushy mess. Props for presentation though.

pork belly movidaThis was another special. Twice cooked pork belly on pickled vegetables. It was good but nothing to write home about.

beef cheek movidaCarrillera de Buey. Again another beef dish. This time Slowly braised Beef Cheek in Pedro Ximenez on Cauliflower Puree. Yummoooo. You can do nothing wrong with beef cheek.

Ganache Movida
For dessert, we chose the Ganache with vanilla bean ice cream. This was a winner. I love vanilla bean anything. Great way to end off the meal. (:

After that, we walked up Hosier Lane and onwards to Hairy Canary for quick drinks. As we were walking up, there was a part of Hosier Lane that was strewn with roses:

It was all a little creepy. The curb was just lined up with roses!!! I was a little freaked out.. Lol.

I have realised that perhaps, I need to take my camera out more instead of relying on my fail of a Blackberry (I'm using the Torch). I have been a lover of Blackberry for a few years now but am seriously contemplating a switch over to the iPhone. Decisions decisions.

Also just wanted to share a photo of the ring a few of my friends got me. It is the YSL arty ring in black and silver. I am not a big fan of the arty in gold and can't seem to fall in love with any of them but this one. When I saw the black/silver, my heart stopped.
